Wedding Bells

Sending out a big congratulations to my friend Mya and her new husband Olivier! They were married on Saturday August 6th, and (much to my relief), it went without a hitch...well, except, of course, for the obvious hitching that occurs at all weddings. ^^

Pre-wedding, Mya was generous enough to take me out to get our nails done as a gift for being her maid of honour, so we both had classy French manicures to add to the updo's and makeup we got the day of the wedding. Call me girly, but I do love dressing up in pretty clothes for special events, and the bridesmaid dress was just to my taste: long, pale blue, and strapless. The groomsmen had ties matching the bridesmaid's dresses, and Oli's vest was pale blue too. Naturally, though, Mya was the shining star in a strapless full skirted gown with subtle white-on-white sequin details. But I'll leave the fashion account there, and just say that everyone (even the groomsmen, who had been in a bachelor party barfight and came back with bruises and stitches) looked wonderful, and very proud to be there.

For a large wedding (definitly over 100 people), it was a simple, beautiful ceremony, with one very talented cousin of Mya's singing and playing the piano for music. Mya and Oli both seemed really sure of themselves, though I bet they were nervous as hell. All the bouquet passing and chair moving I had to do during the mass went smoothly too -much more smoothly than my toast at the reception, where I accidentally congratulated a beautiful "maid of honour" instead of "bride"! Her family will never let me live it down...^^; After the photos, dinner, toasts, and embarrassing childhood photo slideshow (ha ha!), there was much drinking and dancing -especially by Oli, who was screeched in as a Newfie by Mya's family, and had to dance with the Ugly Stick in rubber boots and an atrocious orange hat. It was hilarious! Mya and Oli were whisked off in a romantical cab to a Mystery Honeymoon Hotel around ten. It wasn't quite as fun after that, but the music got better as the younger set took over the floor, and I danced until my high-heeled feet killed me, so it was still a great time.

Well, that barely even touches the highlights of the event, but suffice to say, I think it was the success this wonderful couple deserves. So Mya, if you're reading this, here's a few more electronic conga-rats for you, to add to that pile of well-wishing cards!
